Les Jeffs has been a social worker since 1977. During that time he has practised generically (inclusive of mental health work as he was approved mental health worker under the 1983 Act) and with Children and Families in both fieldwork and team manager capacity. His qualification include C.Q.S.W (Newcastle-on-Tyne Polytechnic/University of Northumbria) and a diploma in Advanced Social work (Goldsmith College/University of London) He also in the progress of completing a M.A in Sociology at Christchurch College, Canterbury.
Avondale has a record of offering facilities to those with medically controlled mental health problems/emotional difficulties and has historically endeavoured to offer via regular interchanges a sense of certainty and predictability, a secure base from which some persons with low self-esteem/anxiety may be able to develop.
Formal counselling sessions can be arranged. Les Jeffs works from an eclectic base when counselling but aims to be non-directive and seeks to promote that individual's Own solution to any difficulty if this is possible. In any event the importance of listening is not underestimated. If necessary written social work appraisal can be formulated.
Carol Jeffs has long experience in dealing with persons With emotional problems having managed these premises since 1987 and other premises for approximately 2 years in total between 1982-1987. As the main daily carer she seeks to promote stability and harmony amongst residents by being ready to listen in a facilitative way. Through expertise Carol has coped with chronic physical illness in others viz:-heart disease, a fluctuating diabetic condition and the rehabilitation of a stroke victim and so is calm and capable in a crisis
